Madame Récamier, Germaine de Staël, the Countess of Boigne and Caroline Murat-Bonaparte, to name but a few of the more flamboyant ladies who left their mark on the Consulate (and the Empire…), held literary and socialite salons which were very popular with their contemporaries. The gatherings discussed novels, plays, essays and poems as well as politics, philosophy, science and society. They stretched their minds, educated themselves, wooed each other, loved, let their hair down, bickered, plotted and more than anything else, enjoyed themselves.
The arrival of TV dinners dealt a fatal blow to the trend of literary socialite salons. But the Consulat de la Boirie ignores television and bravely dares to revive the pleasure of the company of new muses by opening its “Salons consulaires”.
The Consulate’s “Salons consulaires” are workshops where you can learn about art in all its facets. Painting, sculpture, writing, dance, reading… Of course. But the Consulate’s muses are also very knowledgeable about domestic and decorative arts: refined cuisine, cardboard furniture, flower arranging, origami… Whoever your inspiration may be, whether it’s Susan Boyle or Dita von Teese, the Consulate can provide a suitable muse.
In summer months by the bassin, in the winter in the cosy drawing rooms, a Consular muse will invite between 10 and 15 people to share her art and her expertise.
